Conservative South Korean presidential candidate Yoon Suk-yeol leads his progressive opponent Lee Jae-myung by less than 1 percentage point, an exit poll by three major South Korean broadcasters showed Wednesday, as vote-counting continues in the tightly contested race with wide-reaching implications for Seoul’s policy toward North Korea.

The joint exit survey by KBS, MBC and SBS showed Yoon ahead by just 0.6 percentage point — within the margin of error of plus or minus 0.8 percentage point — as voting closed at 7:30 p.m. KST. Voter turnout is so far estimated at 77.1%, just below the 77.2% turnout for the last presidential election in 2017.
