Moon Jae-in vows to keep improving ties with North Korea until end of term

In final New Year’s address, the South Korean president asks the next administration to continue inter-Korean dialogue

South Korean President Moon Jae-in vowed on Monday to continue working toward inter-Korean peace until the end of his term this spring, stressing his administration’s achievements in his final New Year’s speech as leader.

While Moon met North Korean leader Kim Jong Un multiple times between 2018 and 2019 and co-signed two milestone agreements, inter-Korean relations have been deadlocked since the failure of the U.S.-DPRK summit in Hanoi in Feb. 2019.
