North Korea promotes amateur golf scene amid severe economic downturn

Golfing is out of reach for many North Koreans, but money and connections can get one on the course, expert says

While North Korean state media continues to push daily reminders of current “unprecedented” economic challenges and demands that people mobilize to “difficult” worksites, foreign-facing propaganda is promoting the rise of golf hobbyists and a new luxurious golf course.

The English-language Pyongyang Times reported on Tuesday that more “amateur” golfers have been regularly honing their skills and enjoying their leisure time at the Pyongyang Golf Course.
