North Korean state media claimed Wednesday that the country’s top construction project for 2021 featuring an 80-story skyscraper is on track to meet its December deadline, even as the ruling party has failed to finish some high-profile projects in recent years amid material shortages.
The project has seen an entirely new neighborhood sprout up in southeast Pyongyang since March with the country’s now second-tallest building and apartment buildings for 10,000 residents. Kim Jong Un previously ordered workers to finish construction by the end of the year, or within around nine months.
