North Korean elites from across the country get first close-up views of ICBMs

The 'Self-Defense-2021' expo in Pyongyang may be an effort to justify arms buildup amid economic difficulties

A day after North Korea staged its first-ever weapons expo for leader Kim Jong Un and his top party and military officials, elites from across the country were granted access to see the DPRK's wide range of missiles up close for the first time.

According to state media on Thursday, officials from the country’s ministries and national institutions visited the “Self-Defense-2021” national defense development expo on Oct. 13. The previous day, the expo welcomed visitors from the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) Central Committee, as well as senior party-affiliated staff from factory complexes across the country and media workers.
