The recently elected leader of South Korea’s largest conservative party floated the idea of abolishing the Ministry of Unification (MOU) in charge of inter-Korean affairs on Friday, arguing that Seoul should handle the issue of unification as part of its foreign policy.

Lee Jun-seok, the 36-year-old leader of South Korea’s conservative People Power Party (PPP), raised the idea on Christian Broadcasting System (CBS) radio while criticizing parts of the South Korean government’s bureaucratic structure, which he described as “abnormal.”
