A key Japanese government cybersecurity organization identified North Korea as one of the primary actors posing cybersecurity threats to the country on Wednesday, as it laid out plans to ramp up Tokyo’s cyber defense capabilities.

In a draft of a strategic plan that it adopted on the day, the Cybersecurity Strategic Headquarters (CSHQ) assessed that North Korea, along with China and Russia, appears to be increasing the cyber capabilities of its “military and other institutions,” while conducting cyberattacks to “achieve political aims or obtain foreign currency.”
