North Korea likely to talk with South Korea before the US: Moon Chung-in

Former Blue House official urges North Korea not to undervalue Sung Kim, new US envoy

A former special adviser on North Korea issues and confidant of South Korean President Moon Jae-in said that Pyongyang is likely considering returning to talks — but that it would prefer talking to Seoul first rather than Washington.

Moon Chung-in made the remarks at a press briefing on Thursday, where he also urged Pyongyang to take Washington’s offer to talk to Sung Kim, the new U.S. pointman on North Korea, arguing that not doing so would be a “big miscalculation.”
