The United States Congress has moved to block President Donald Trump from pulling U.S. troops out of the Korean peninsula, according to the latest version of the country's annual defense bill made public late Monday night in Washington.

The bill, known as the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) — a massive legal document that determines U.S. military policy and maximum spending levels for the year ahead — includes a requirement that would effectively ban the president from reducing the number of troops in South Korea below 28,500, essentially their current number.
