Seoul to place fresh unilateral sanctions on 12 North Koreans, 20 entities

Unclear what impact the designations will have on DPRK given lack of trade, relations

The South Korean government on Sunday announced fresh unilateral sanctions against 20 North Korean entities and 12 North Korean individuals, in order to try and limit the financial activities linked to the development of Pyongyang's ballistic missile and nuclear weapons.

The new unilateral sanctions – which commence on Monday – come just over a month after the Moon Jae-in government blacklisted 18 North Koreans linked to the country’s banking system, ahead of U.S. President Donald Trump's visit to South Korea.
