Russia begins criminal cases against N. Korean fishermen

Russian authorities say two coastguard officers suffered injuries

Russia has begun criminal cases against North Korean fishermen caught poaching in Russia’s exclusive economic zone last week, according to local media and a statement from the Far Eastern Transport Department’s investigation committee issued on Wednesday.

The incident between the fishermen and Russian coastguard ended in violence after the DPRK crew resisted arrest and were subsequently fired upon, killing one and injuring nine.
