United States Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter has named General Vincent K. Brooks to be the next commanding general of United States Forces Korea (USFK), the U.S. Department of Defense announced Friday.
As commander of USFK, Brooks will be in charge of all U.S. military forces in Korea and be the senior U.S. military officer responsible for dealing with North Korea as well as the military and security situation on the Korean Peninsula. Brooks’ appointment is still contingent upon confirmation by the U.S. Senate.
