South Korea calls for release of ROK citizen, U.S. remains quiet

Ministry of Unification issues statement on student's arrest; U.S. defers to Seoul, keeps mum

The South Korean Ministry of Unification (MoU) issued a statement on Monday calling for the immediate repatriation of a 21-year-old South Korean citizen arrested by North Korean authorities on April 22.

According to a report on North Korean state media, Joo Won-moon, a student at New York University (NYU), was detained for allegedly crossing the Yalu River from Dandong, China into North Korea.
