Experience abroad a double-edged sword for N. Korean diplomats

View from Seoul: What South Koreans are reading in local media about North Korea

A Donga Ilbo blog reported this week that the children of North Korean diplomats are to return to North Korea for fear they will be negatively influenced by foreign culture. Based on information from his own sources, YTN journalist Kim Sung Jae wrote that a number of recent defections to South Korea by the children of diplomats has led to the recall.

Kim also reported on rumors that North Korean women who have been posted abroad for official purposes have been used by government minders seeking to earn foreign currency for themselves, prompting investigation into government representatives’ overseas activities.
