North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed ways to expand economic ties and people-to-people exchanges in wide-ranging talks on Monday afternoon, including through the reopening of border crossings and resumption of civilian flights.

But a readout released by China’s state-run Xinhua news agency made no mention of nuclear talks or the Korean Peninsula, in line with Beijing’s retreat from openly supporting the DPRK’s denuclearization in recent years.
