U.S. President Donald Trump has named a State Department official who supported diplomacy with North Korea during his first term as the new acting ambassador to Seoul, days ahead of a trip to South Korea.

Kevin Kim, senior bureau official in the State Department’s East Asian and Pacific Affairs Bureau, will serve as the chargé d’affaires, ad interim, the U.S. Embassy in Seoul announced on Monday.

Kim replaces outgoing acting envoy Joseph Yun, who had served in the role since Ambassador Philip Goldberg left the post in January.
