North Korea’s newly opened Wonsan Kalma mega-resort pulled out all the stops for its first foreign guests this month, one of the visitors told NK News, wowing the Russian tour group with lavish 10-dish meals, prompt service and pristine beaches in a sign of the lengths the country is going to promote its premier travel destination.

The first group of 15 Russian tourists arrived in Wonsan last Friday after an overnight train ride from Pyongyang and a flight from Vladivostok, with travelers from as far away as St. Petersburg forking over some $1,850 for the package trip.
