UK sanctions North Korean defense officials over troop deployment to Russia

Australia, New Zealand and Canada also announce measures, but US sits out as Trump takes friendlier stance toward Moscow

The U.K. has imposed sanctions on North Korea’s defense minister and other senior figures linked to the deployment of DPRK troops and weapons to support Russia’s war against Ukraine, following a series of coordinated designations by other Commonwealth countries.

But the U.S. stood out by declining to join its allies in announcing new sanctions on North Korea for the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion, likely reflecting the Trump administration’s friendlier stance toward Moscow and interest in diplomacy with Pyongyang.
