North Korean firm advertises illegal restaurants in China and Cambodia

DPRK magazine states Tongnam Trading Company runs ‘scores’ of restaurants overseas, despite UN sanctions against this

A North Korean company is openly advertising its management of joint venture restaurants overseas, including in China and Cambodia, in violation of U.N. Security Council (UNSC) sanctions forbidding such operations.

The latest edition of the DPRK’s Foreign Trade magazine states that Tongnam Trading Company "runs scores of JV restaurants" through agencies in China, Cambodia and other countries. This includes restaurants operating under the name "Pyongyang Cold Noodle House,” according to the advertisement in the Jan. 2025 issue.
