Senate confirms Rubio as secretary of state, setting up North Korea policy shift

Unanimous vote in favor of Trump pick comes after Rubio signaled need to rethink US approach to Pyongyang

The U.S. Senate has unanimously confirmed Marco Rubio as President Donald Trump’s secretary of state, potentially paving the way for a shift in North Korea policy.

Rubio’s confirmation came in a 99-0 vote shortly after Trump’s inauguration, making him the first high-level Cabinet official cleared to begin work. The senator from Florida enjoyed bipartisan support, with even Trump-opponents backing the pick for top U.S. diplomat.
