South Korean living in Australia meets family in North Korea on rare trip

Seoul says 80-something ROK national reunited with two nephews as part of private visit, first of its kind in five years

A South Korean national residing in Australia reunited with family members in North Korea in October, the first such meeting in five years, Seoul’s unification ministry confirmed on Tuesday.

The ministry did not reveal the name of the person, but confirmed that they are in their 80s and that the visit was privately brokered. The individual reportedly met two nephews in the DPRK.
