North Korea launched at least seven short-range ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan (East Sea) on Tuesday morning, according to Japan’s defense ministry. 

The launch occurred a day before the U.S. presidential election and just hours after high-level talks in Moscow between the DPRK foreign minister and Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

The DPRK leader’s sister Kim Yo Jong also released a statement an hour before the launch promising “corresponding” measures in response to joint U.S.-ROK-Japan air force drills this week.
