US, ROK, Japan launch new body to monitor North Korea’s sanctions violations

Eight other nations also joined Multilateral Sanctions Monitoring Team following dissolution of UN Panel of Experts

The U.S., South Korea, Japan and eight Western nations have launched a new mechanism to monitor North Korea sanctions violations following the dissolution of the U.N. Panel of Experts after Russia’s veto earlier this year.

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell, First Vice Foreign Minister Kim Hong-kyun and Japanese Vice Foreign Minister Masataka Okano announced the launch of the Multilateral Sanctions Monitoring Team (MSTM) in Seoul on Wednesday.
