Seoul imposes new sanctions on North Korea over latest ICBM launch

Export controls target key components for solid-fuel missiles amid signs DPRK continues to source parts from abroad

South Korea imposed new export sanctions on North Korea to prevent it from obtaining key materials for solid-propellant missile production on Thursday, in retaliation against Pyongyang’s launch of a long-range ballistic missile earlier in the day.

Seoul’s foreign ministry stated that the launch poses a threat to “peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and the international community” in its announcement on the new measures “restricting North Korea's ballistic missile development.”
