North Korean arms sales to Russia show limits of UN Security Council: Seoul

South Korean foreign minister criticizes council for failing to condemn Moscow’s invasion, calling for multilateralism

South Korea’s foreign minister said North Korea’s arms exports to Russia in breach of sanctions are a prime example of the “limitations” of the U.N. Security Council (UNSC) on Wednesday, calling for a greater focus on multilateralism to overcome the body’s divisions.

During an open debate on “leadership for peace” on the sidelines of the ongoing U.N. General Assembly session, Cho Tae-yul criticized the Security Council for failing to adopt even a single resolution in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine despite mounting civilian casualties.
