Kim Jong Un decries ‘backward’ rural conditions at meeting by his beach mansion

North Korean leader scolds officials for focus on construction speed, discusses building hospitals and science centers

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un held a meeting on reversing the country’s “centuries-old backwardness” over the weekend, according to state media, even as the meeting location called attention to his personal life of luxury and neglect of the economy.

NK News analysis shows that Saturday’s meeting to discuss building “advanced public health facilities, sci-tech dissemination centers and grain management facilities” across the country took place on the beach of the luxurious Majon Hotel, which is connected to his own private beach and mansion near Hamhung on the east coast.
