US-ROK marines train to counter-invade North Korea in case of attack

Allies to conduct Ssangyong amphibious exercise through Sept. 7, while kicking off three-day air drills above Yellow Sea

U.S. and South Korean marines will train how to launch a counter-invasion if North Korea attacks, as part of a large-scale joint amphibious exercise that kicked off on Monday.

The Ssangyong 2024, or “double dragon,” drills will run from Aug. 26 to Sept. 7 on South Korea’s east coast and near the southeastern city of Pohang, the ROK navy and marines announced in a press release on Sunday.
