President doubles down on human rights in new unification policy, but expert doubts plans will help North Koreans, NGOs

South Korea will establish a new North Korea human rights fund and promote efforts to disseminate information inside the country, President Yoon Suk-yeol announced on Thursday, unveiling plans to bring about “freedom-based unification” in a major policy speech.

But one expert questioned whether the proposals will actually bring about positive change for North Korean people and human rights organizations, raising concerns about Yoon’s partisan approach to human rights issues.
