North Korean wins country’s first-ever Olympic medal in women’s wrestling

Choe Hyo Gyong defeats Germans opponent to take home bronze, bringing DPRK medal total in Paris to six

A North Korean wrestler became the country’s first woman to win an Olympic medal in the sport on Thursday, taking home bronze in the 53kg weight class at the Paris Games.

The 24-year-old Choe Hyo Gyong defeated her German opponent Annika Wendle by a score of 10-0, achieving a “victory by technical superiority” and not conceding a single point.
