North Korean farmland suffered ‘minimal’ damage from floods, USDA finds

Research predicts limited impact on crop production despite heavy rains, which expert calls relief for food security

Farmland in North Korea’s northwestern regions suffered only limited damage from recent flooding, according to new U.S. government research, concluding that they are unlikely to impact the country’s overall crop production this year.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) stated in its latest seasonal outlook last week that recent rainfall and massive flooding appear to have had “minimal impact nationwide” on North Korean crops, anticipating strong rice and corn output this year.
