Yoon slams ‘reckless’ North Korea-Russia ties at US Indo-Pacific Command

Expert says rare visit likely planned in response to Kim-Putin summit as showcase of US-ROK alliance strength

South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol made a rare visit to the military command for all U.S. forces across the Indo-Pacific region on Tuesday, slamming “reckless” North Korea-Russia military ties as a threat to international peace while seeking to showcase the strength of the U.S.-ROK alliance.

Yoon’s stopover at the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM) in Hawaii marked the first visit by a South Korean president in 29 years, as well as the first since it changed its name from Pacific Command in 2018, the ROK presidential office said on Wednesday.
