North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexey Krivoruchko in Pyongyang on Thursday, according to state media, to discuss boosting military ties one month after Kim and Russian leader Vladimir Putin signed a new defense pact. Krivoruchko is in charge of military procurement matters, suggesting the visit could be about acquiring DPRK weapons. The Rodong Sinmun reported on Friday that Kim and Krivoruchko discussed “the importance of and need for cooperation in the military sector” to protect their mutual interests.
