Major flooding hit the northwestern part of North Korea along the Chinese border on Sunday, leaving 5,000 people stranded and leader Kim Jong Un fuming at what he said was a “grave crisis” caused by local officials, according to state media.
The Rodong Sinmun said Kim oversaw the rescue of 4,200 people from the Sinuiju and Uiju areas and that “some 5,000” people were ultimately rescued, but the report did not mention the number of casualties.
