North Korean leader Kim Jong Un marked the 30th anniversary of his grandfather and founding leader Kim Il Sung’s death with a large-scale ceremony on Monday, as state media emphasized the importance of hereditary autocracy in an apparent bid to shore up the current ruler’s legitimacy and future family successions.
Kim Jong Un also attended a concert and visited the mausoleum where Kim Il Sung’s body reportedly still lies in state, embalmed in a glass case, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
