Humanitarian officials visit North Korea for first time since exodus of UN staff

Trip by head of Food and Agriculture Organization is promising sign for return of aid workers and tourists, experts say

The head of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) led a delegation to North Korea over the weekend, the first confirmed trip by U.N. humanitarian officials since the last aid workers left the country in 2021.

While the U.N. body in charge of global food security has not revealed any details about FAO chief Qu Dongyu’s visit, experts raised hopes that his trip will lead to the revival of DPRK cooperation with aid agencies and foreign tourism.
