South Korea sanctions Russian vessels, entities and North Korean nationals

Expert suggests new designations are Seoul’s response to the ‘renewed alliance’ between Moscow and Pyongyang

South Korea imposed new sanctions on multiple Russian vessels, entities and DPRK nationals for facilitating oil shipments to North Korea, illicit arms transfers and aiding Pyongyang’s development of weapons of mass destruction.

The move comes as part of “response measures” to continued military cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow in violation of U.N. Security Council (UNSC) resolutions and the recent signing of a Russia-DPRK mutual defense pact, the ROK foreign ministry said in a press release on Thursday.
