North Korea to hold major party meeting after overhauling inter-Korean policy

Expert says plenum likely to consider constitutional revisions, while Politburo ‘almost certainly’ discussed Putin visit

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un presided over a meeting of one of the country’s highest decision-making bodies on Friday, deciding to hold a major party gathering in June to review the implementation of state plans after announcing a dramatic overhaul of inter-Korean policy at the beginning of the year.

State media reports provided few details about the Politburo meeting, but the presence of the country’s foreign minister and the ruling party’s international department director make it “almost certain” that the meeting discussed a potential visit by Russian leader Vladimir Putin, according to one expert.
