North Korea has launched around 260 balloons carrying trash into South Korea since Tuesday night, according to the ROK military, days after Pyongyang threatened to send “mounds of filth” over the border in retaliation against anti-regime leafleting.

Local authorities issued emergency alerts late Tuesday night warning citizens about balloon launches from North Korea.

“Suspicious objects presumed to be North Korean leaflets have been identified in the front-line areas,” the push alert read. “The public is advised to refrain from outdoor activities and to report any unidentified objects to the military or police.”
