The U.N. panel that has been at the center of global efforts to monitor the implementation of sanctions on North Korea’s nuclear weapons program officially disbanded on Tuesday, following the failure of efforts to keep it alive for another year.
Security Council members had been negotiating proposals to save the Panel of Experts since Russia vetoed an annual extension of its mandate in late March, but they were unable to reach an agreement, including on an earlier Russian proposal to extend the mandate on Moscow’s terms.
