The U.N. General Assembly convened on Thursday to discuss Russia’s veto of a resolution to extend the mandate of the expert panel monitoring North Korea sanctions, with several countries proposing that the assembly play a greater role in maintaining pressure on Pyongyang’s nuclear weapons programs.
The meeting in New York came as the U.N. Panel of Experts is set to dissolve if the Security Council (UNSC) can’t agree to a renewal before an April 30 deadline.
