News Kim Jong Un leads military drill simulating takeover of South Korean guard postsNorth Korean leader calls for better ‘war preparations’ as US and ROK continue large-scale Freedom Shield drills
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un led military drills on Wednesday simulating the takeover of a South Korean border guard post, according to state media, saying they were necessary to counter “the enemies’ ever-constant threats.” The military activity at a “major operational training base in the western area” comes as the U.S. and South Korea kicked off large-scale annual joint military exercises on Monday called Freedom Shield. Photos of Wednesday’s North Korean drills published by the Rodong Sinmun showed soldiers firing rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) and anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs).
