North Korea fired more than 60 rounds of artillery near the maritime Northern Limit Line off the west coast on Saturday evening, according to a statement from the South Korean military.

This comes a day after the DPRK resumed artillery drills near the maritime border. South Korea responded by holding counter-response drills and advising residents of two West Sea islands to evacuate to shelters as a precautionary measure. 

“The North Korean military carried out the firing of at least 60 rounds [of artillery] from northwest of Yeonpyeong Island between 4 and 5 p.m. KST today,” the Joint Chiefs of Staff
