US requests UN Security Council meeting to discuss North Korea human rights

Washington says briefing next week would be first since 2017 and is ‘long overdue’

The U.S. has requested a U.N. Security Council (UNSC) meeting next week to discuss North Korean human rights abuses in the Council’s first meeting on the issue in more than five years.

In a statement, Washington’s mission to the U.N. said a UNSC briefing on the DPRK’s human rights situation is “long overdue.”
