Presumed North Korean man carrying drugs found dead near border, Seoul says

South Korea to decide whether to repatriate body after investigation, as media report man was attempting to defect

ROK authorities found a presumed North Korean man carrying drugs dead near the inter-Korean border earlier this month, NK News has confirmed.

The National Intelligence Service (NIS) told NK News on Tuesday that the South Korean military discovered the body along the coast of Ganghwa Island in the Yellow Sea on May 19, and that “suspicious objects presumed to be drugs” were found among his belongings.

The NIS press office said a “joint investigation with relevant agencies” is underway, and the National Forensic Service confirmed to NK News that it is currently analyzing the drugs.
