North Korea kicks off party plenum on ‘urgent’ food issues

Kim Jong Un convened major meeting Sunday likely to last several days, amid concerns about food insecurity in country

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un kicked off a multi-day party plenum on Sunday to address “urgent” agricultural issues, according to state media, amid allegations of mass “starvation” by South Korean authorities.

The Rodong Sinmun stated in a brief report Monday that over the coming days, top party and government officials will review how rural development policies fared over the last year and discuss other “urgent tasks to be carried out at the present stage for national economic development.”
