The Yoon Suk-yeol administration announced its updated five-year defense plans on Wednesday, calling for the military to acquire new capabilities ranging from electromagnetic pulse weapons to artificial intelligence systems in order to counter emerging North Korean threats.
Seoul released the annual Intermediate-term National Defense Plan two days after the ROK military was unable to take down North Korean drones that flew several miles into South Korean airspace, and a week after the National Assembly passed a record $44.7 billion defense budget for the new year.
