UN Security Council to convene after historic week of North Korean missile tests

US led past meetings after DPRK weapons tests this year but has been unable to reach consensus with permanent members

The U.N. Security Council (UNSC) will convene an emergency meeting on Friday to discuss North Korea’s repeated ballistic missile launches this week and its alleged violations of UNSC resolutions, according to the council's website.

North Korea launched at least 27 missiles and around 100 artillery shells on Wednesday and Thursday alone, including what the U.S. and South Korea determined to be an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) that failed over the East Sea.
