Countries around the world must continue to send a “firm” and consistent message to North Korea against the potential first-use of nuclear weapons, South Korean foreign minister Park Jin told the chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Wednesday.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un last week declared there will not be any denuclearization negotiations going forward, lauding the country’s new law updating its 2013 nuclear doctrine to justify preemptive strikes. Pyongyang also said it would seek an “immediate” and “automatic” nuclear strike in certain scenarios even when leader Kim Jong Un is not available to order it.
