The upcoming Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) conference at the U.N. “cannot solve” the issue of North Korea’s continued nuclear weapons development, Washington’s top envoy for arms control and disarmament said Tuesday.

Ambassador Adam Scheinman’s remarks come as the DPRK test-launched missiles at a torrid pace in the first half of the year and as a U.S. State Department spokesperson again expressed concern about a potential North Korean nuclear test.
