Top US diplomat to visit Seoul to discuss ‘serious situation’ on the peninsula

North Korea has launched at least one ICBM and a flurry of other short- and mid-range ballistic missiles since January

The U.S. pointman for North Korea policy will visit South Korea next week and discuss the “serious situation on the Korean Peninsula” following at least three North Korean long-range missile system tests and a major holiday celebration expected Friday.

Sung Kim’s trip will mark his fourth visit to Seoul since becoming special representative for DPRK policy last year. He last met his ROK counterpart Noh Kyu-duk two weeks ago and agreed to take “strong measures” in response to North Korea’s intercontinental ballistic missile test.
